Last week, PPLD proudly debuted this eNewsletter. If you received last week’s issue, you may notice some subtle changes in this week’s edition. These came as a result of feedback we received from our subscribers. As we move forward, we would love to hear what you think about this eNewsletter, the programs and services it promotes, and Pikes Peak Library District in general. To make your voice heard, you can simply respond to this email, click on the Contact Us link above, or send an email to lol@ppld.org.

This week, you will find information about a local quilter whose work is on display at Cheyenne Mountain Library, the final concert of World Music Series 2011, and how to stream movies online through our website. If you want to have substantial influence on the future of PPLD, scroll down for details about applying for or an upcoming vacancy on our Board of Trustees.

Off the Wall: Alice Ridges

Local quilter Alice Ridges discusses her art, which will be on display at the Cheyenne Mountain Library throughout the month of August. PPLD shows the work of local artists at our galleries throughout the Library District.

Soulful voice from Brazil closes World Music Series 2011
World Music Series 2011 wraps up with a free concert by Brazilian singer Luísa Maita. Sultry, seductive, and infused with that inimitable samba swing, her music embodies the modern spirit of Brazil.

Maita, a native of the Brazilian mega-city São Paulo, has been surrounded by music since birth. Her father, Amado Maita, a singer whose one debut solo album from the 1970s is a coveted vinyl collector’s item, named all three of his daughters after songs by bossa nova legend Antonio Carlos Jobim.

The show, brought to you by KRCC Concerts, is free. However, a nonperishable food donation to Care and Share is strongly recommended.
  • When: Wednesday, August 24 at 7 p.m.
  • Where: Armstrong Quad, Colorado College (Armstrong Theater, rain backup)
