Off the Wall: Sara Sharples
|
|
In the PPLD TV segment above, Sara Sharples discusses her art, which spans many mediums, including black and white photography and colored pencil. Her reason for creating the art is not making money, but rather self enjoyment. You can enjoy her art yourself at High Prairie Library throughout January.
PPLD is also displaying the work of many other talented local artists at many of our locations. For a complete list of this month’s exhibits, click here.
Teens wanting to have their artwork displayed at the Library should click here for details on TArt 2012, a teen art competition.

Adult Reading Program: Novel Destinations
Pikes Peak Library District’s annual Adult Reading Program will kick off on January 9! This year’s theme is Novel Destinations and is open to anyone age 18 and older with a PPLD library card. Novel Destinations runs through March 5 and adults can read any eight books of their choice. Books on CD, audiocassette, audiobook players, eBooks, and eAudiobooks count, too!
You will be able to sign up at ppld.org beginning January 9. Reading logs will be available, but feel free to keep track of the books you’ve read using any method you choose.
After you read your first four books, visit your nearest library to pick up your first prize. The program has great prizes this year from Shops at Briargate, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Louie’s Pizza, The Colorado Springs Flea Market, Chick-fil-A, and XS Threadz. Read four more books before March 5 and visit the library again for your second prize. And if you read eight books by the March 5 deadline, you’ll be entered for the grand prize drawing of a new Kindle eReader!

Donate Your Used CDs, Support APPR
Library patrons are encouraged to donate their used music CDs between now and February 13 at collection boxes located at all Pikes Peak Library District locations. Independent Records will donate $1 to the Library for each donated CD to help support All Pikes Peak Reads (APPR) in 2012. CDs must be in good condition, including all original lyric sheets and/or art.
All Pikes Peak Reads is a community-wide effort to improve literacy and foster dialogue across social, cultural, and generational lines. The program includes free community events, author visits, children's programs, theater presentations, school curriculum guides, art exhibits, and much more. Past projects include The Hunger Games (2011), The Devil in the White City (2010), Rocket Boys (2009), The Worst Hard Time (2008), Zorro (2007), Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (2006), Tales from the Arabian Nights (2005), Treasure Island (2004), Frankenstein (2003), and To Kill a Mockingbird (2002).
