Library Express provides Library materials,
service at First & Main Town Center

Vending machines aren’t just for convenient snacking anymore. In February, PPLD opened Library Express at 3337 Cinema Point in the First & Main Town Center. The facility is the first of its kind for the Library District – an un-staffed walk-in facility where patrons can satiate their literary and cinematic hunger by scanning their library card and selecting a tempting title.

The Library District was able to open the new facility at a minimal cost due to Nor’wood Development’s generous donation of the space (located near the entrance to Cinemark Theatre).

Patrons can check out up to two books and two DVDs from the vending machine at one time. Items can be returned to a bookdrop at Library Express, or at any of PPLD’s other library locations and bookdrops. The Library Express location also contains a computer kiosk where patrons can access the District’s Catalog and web resources.

What If Festival, PPLD seeking short creative films; submission deadline extended to August 22

The What If Festival is seeking creative and innovative short film submissions from around the Pikes Peak region to showcase at the Pikes Peak Center during the Festival’s second annual celebration on Saturday, September 10, 2011. The Festival’s Film Evaluation Committee is looking for family-friendly films, between five and 20 minutes in length, that explore some aspect of creativity and/or innovation in our region.

Submissions could be produced by your company’s video department or simply made in your backyard – what’s important is the idea your film transmits. Your film could be about some aspect of creativity occurring in your area or the film could simply be the creative work itself. Whether it’s a Rube Goldberg Machine, stop-motion animation, or the children’s toy you circuit bent in your basement – the possibilities are really wide open.

The submission deadline has been extended until August 22. For selection criteria and submission information, click here.
