| Mango: Language learning made easy |
PPLD has many tools available for learning another language. The Library has language conversation groups for non-native speakers that meet regularly to converse in Spanish, German, French, Japanese, and Italian (visit ppld.org for complete listing of times and locations). And that’s in addition to the great foreign language materials available through our collection.
But perhaps the most impressive foreign language learning tool the library has is its subscription to Mango Languages, an online language-learning portal where aspiring polyglots can choose from 22 foreign languages plus 14 English as a Second Language options. Need to brush up on your Haitian Creole? You can find it by visiting ppld.org, clicking on Databases A-Z on the left side of the page, and scrolling down to Mango Languages.
Once you create an account, the system keeps track of what you’ve been studying and how long you’ve been studying it, great for goal setting when you’re getting ready for a trip to another country. If you have a smart phone, you can download the Mango app and keep your continuing education going even when you’re away from a computer.
