Colorado Springs, Colorado – As part of the massive neighbor-to-neighbor outreach to support the Waldo Canyon Fire relief, a benefit concert will be held on Independence Day (Wednesday, July 4th) to support victims of the Waldo Canyon Fire and to recognize and honor the firefighters and emergency response teams working to save our city.
Featuring the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, along with appearances by the Flying W Wranglers,
Michael Martin Murphey, and Flash Cadillac, the concert will be a heartfelt tribute to the challenges,
individuals, and heroic efforts taking place locally. The event masters of ceremony will include anchors from our local television stations.
Tickets
The one-night concert event will be held at 7:00 pm on July 4, 2012 at the World Arena. Tickets are free but required. Tickets are sold out, however, we have held back a small number of tickets for our club members that may have been out of town during the announcement. Because of the small number of tickets available, we are asking that you limit your requests to four (4) per club member until all requests have been received. You have until 5 pm today (Monday, July 2) to respond to Verlee at 477-2102. At this time, we are not planning on a pre-show dinner in the Penrose Club. Doors open at 6:00 pm. Concert begins at 7:00 pm.
Broadcast
The concert will also be simulcast on KOAA 5, Rocky Mountain PBS, KXRM Fox 21, KRDO News 13, KKTV 11 News, KRCC 91.5 FM, 92.9 PEAK FM, Cat Country 95.1 FM, and Classic Rock 98.1 KKFM. Portions of the broadcast will be aired on KILO 94.3 and 103.9 RXP.
Donations
Attendees will have the opportunity to make monetary donations to the Waldo Canyon Victims’
Assistance Fund at the event. Additionally, Care and Share Food Bank donations will be accepted. Thanks to a generous group of underwriters led by the Colorado Springs Independent and Focus on the Family, 100% of the funds raised at the concert will go directly to the Waldo Canyon Fire relief efforts.
In a joint statement, John Weiss, Publisher of the Independent and Jim Daly, President of Focus on the
Family, said “Fighting this fire, we are one community—together. Yes, we have had our differences, but we are united in reaching out to fire victims in their time of need and also honoring those risking their lives fighting this devastating tragedy.”
